Keto or Not Keto: Debunking the Dilemma and Finding What Works

My Midlife Reality Check

My body was betraying me with anxiety, joint pain, insomnia, intense mood swings, and lifeless hair. My skin? Drama. My nerves? Shot.

When I finally stopped eating “normal” (you know, the type of normal that’s secretly sugar-loaded and carb-heavy), everything shifted. The chaos quieted. The panic packed its bags. I didn’t just feel better—I felt free.

I went full Keto.

There’s this strange debate floating around—some people swear by keto, others treat it like a villain. Honestly, I don’t get the drama. Is it a dilemma to switch to a low-carb lifestyle or Keto in midlife, knowing that running on sugar can lead to everything from chronic inflammation to serious disease... even cancer?

Let’s be real—this isn’t rocket science. It’s common sense.

The problem isn’t the science. It’s the excuses, cravings, and being out of the comfort zone. But if I want to live longer and not just exist, but thrive, then I need to fuel my body like it matters. That means keto, or at least a keto-inspired way of eating.

No more sugar-fueled denial. No more waiting for symptoms to shout what I already know. I’m choosing energy, clarity, and a better future. That’s not a debate. That’s my decision.

Keto Keto

For five years, I committed to the richness of bacon, cheese, butter, avocado, beef, and berries.

It wasn’t always perfect; sometimes I cheated. But those moments taught me something unexpected: cravings often had a root cause, and most were surprisingly easy to fix once I paid attention.

Seven years later, my body prefers a version I call “Keto-inspired with a twist of common sense.”

My Not-So-Keto

I keep Eating:

  • Clean fats like avocado, olive oil, nuts, seeds, coconut oil, and butter.

  • Fatty grass-fed proteins in moderate amounts.

  • Lots of leafy greens and cruciferous veggies.

  • Berries.

  • And yes, the occasional bite of dark chocolate

  • L-reuteri yogurt.

  • Nut milk.

Is this keto or not so keto?

The question remains, but I feel great.

I keep refined sugar low, and don’t obsess over counting carbs.

This works for me. I feel light but nourished. I sleep great, cravings stay quiet, zero hot flashes, and overall, feeling great.

About the Dilemma?

I mentioned above, “Is it really a dilemma to switch to a low-carb or full keto lifestyle in midlife, knowing that running on sugar can lead to everything from chronic inflammation to serious disease... even cancer?

It’s not Keto vs. Low-Carb.
It’s about listening to our bodies.
At midlife, Keto or low-carb helps.

I do my Keto-inspired diet for energy, for hormone balance, and to feel alive, not to chase a number on the scale.

So here I am, sipping my green smoothie like it’s a secret weapon, dodging sugar like an ex I finally got over, and feeling more me than I have in years.

Midlife isn’t a crisis, it’s a crossroads. And this time, I’m choosing the road that leads to clarity, energy, and jeans that actually zip.

But that’s my story.

Now I want to hear yours.
